Congratulations to Beam Team PhD candidate Dylan Cousins for successfully defending his thesis, “Advanced Thermoplastic Composites for Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing.”
Dylan’s research characterized rheological and kinetic control of infusible thermoplastic resins via concentration and molecular weight alteration for more effective fabrication of wind turbine blades. His research shows that thermoplastic wind turbine blades are able to be recycled more easily than blades fabricated using current composite systems.
Dylan plans to continue work on thermoplastic composite characterization within the Stebner research group through the spring of 2019. He then plans to further his career in composites manufacturing through a postdoctoral study for which he is currently seeking institutions with exciting composites manufacturing projects.
