DYLAN COUSINS WINS OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL PAPER AWARD

Beam Team PhD candidate Dylan Cousins has won “Best in Track: Advances in Materials” in the Outstanding Technical Paper awards for the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (CAMX 2018) for his paper “Thermoplastic Composites for Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing.” He is one of 10 researchers to be honored for putting together well-written, interesting and groundbreaking technical papers that address critical areas of importance to the composites and advanced materials industry from business, applications and research perspectives.

CAMX is produced by the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) and will be held in Dallas, Texas, in October. This premier annual event for the composites community is expected to draw thousands of participants from the United States and abroad (the 2017 CAMX had over 6,500 attendees).

Dylan, who anticipates completing his PhD in Chemical Engineering in December 2018, will present the paper at CAMX and will receive his award at the CAMX Luncheon on Thursday, October 18. His research is funded by the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI). Co-authors on the paper include Yasuhito Suzuki (former Beam Team postdoc and current Assistant Professor in Applied Chemistry at Osaka Prefecture University), Joseph Samaniuk (Assistant Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering at Mines), and Aaron Stebner (Associate Professor in both Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Mines).

Congratulations, Dylan!
